An Addendum

I was reading this in my friend’s tumblr, and I agree 100%.  We cannot support people who react in demeaning ways simply because they have talent we respect.  I would say the same thing regarding Michael Vick, whose skills do not excuse his actions.  Unfortunately, at this point, I’m forced to say the same thing for the band, Kings of Leon.

In case you missed it, here’s a bit of what was going on with them.  I think it’s old drama, but not everyone keeps up with this stuff.

So producer Ryan Murphy asked permission to use ‘Use Somebody’ on Glee.  Fine.

Kings of Leon said No!  also fine.

Ryan Murphy said F*CK YOU, KINGS OF LEON!  A little overreactive and scary, and yes, deserving of an apology to the band.  I don’t condone that as a reaction, or as a way of communicating displeasure.  Poorly done, Ryan Murphy.

Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill replied: “Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra.”

Now some of you might say oh, there she goes, upset about another homophobic rant.  Well, yeah, sure, it’s homophobic, and rude and smacks of seventh grade as far as insults go, but no, that’s not why I’m upset.  I’m actually more upset about the last option Followill offered Murphy - buy a new bra.

Forgive me, I’m a little confused.  Since when is buying a bra an insulting behavior?  Don’t start with the whole “it’s fine for a woman to do so, but for a man to do so is insulting and gay” because I REALLY do NOT want to hear that.  That is a weak excuse, a pathetic argument, and it also supports what the underlying suggestion of this statement is - daily living, for a woman, is beneath men, and suggesting they behave in a way that is normal for most women from about age ten, is an insult.

I am so not okay with that. 

And Followill still hasn’t issued an apology.  So I wait, sad to move another person from ‘talented’ to ‘talented but not respectable’.

PS to the Guys out there - You seem to be pretty big fans of what goes into bras.  Suggestion: don’t insult women for wearing them, it won’t do you any good.
